WHO WE ARE

Values and commitment

The Ethical Packaging Charter Foundation is a non-profit organisation established in 2020 and registered in the Italian National Register of the Third Sector since 2022.

The Foundation was created to give voice and continuity to the Ethical Packaging Charter, a cultural document developed in 2015 by Edizioni Dativo and the Politecnico di Milano, with the aim of defining the cultural and design values that should guide the packaging sector.

The Foundation’s mission is to promote and consolidate a positive culture of packaging, inspired by the ten Values of the Ethical Charter, recognising packaging not only for its technical functions but also for its decisive contribution to environmental, economic and social sustainability.

To translate its mission into concrete action, the Foundation operates through four strategic areas:

Education

The Foundation develops educational and professional initiatives involving primary and secondary schools, universities and professionals across the packaging value chain. From classroom outreach activities to advanced training programmes, including workshops, cultural projects and courses focused on technical and regulatory skills, the Foundation’s educational activities support widespread, informed growth aligned with the ten Values of the Ethical Packaging Charter.

Research and Development

Tools, guidelines, studies and cultural dissemination activities designed to help the value chain interpret technological, design and regulatory change. This area includes the Foundation Days, in-depth events held four times a year, as well as participation in competitions and scientific awards such as Best Packaging, which recognise responsible innovation and design excellence across the sector.

Social Sustainability

Projects that integrate education, employment and inclusion, creating real opportunities for people in vulnerable situations or with specific needs. The Foundation develops pathways that enhance skills, autonomy and dignity, from penitentiary institutions to programmes dedicated to vulnerable contexts, promoting a vision of sustainability that places people, communities and their professional futures at the centre.

Ambassadors

A network of companies and organisations that share the ten Values of the Ethical Charter and translate them into concrete practices, not only within their own organisations but also through their role in the value chain, in relationships with partners and clients, and in communication with society. Ambassadors support the Foundation’s projects, participate in its cultural activities and contribute to spreading a system-wide culture based on ethics, quality, responsibility and collaboration throughout the packaging sector.

Governance

The Foundation’s governance is entrusted to leading figures from the packaging industry.
The Chair of the Board of Directors is Alessandra Fazio (Nestlé).

She is supported by Vice Chairs Chiara Faenza (Coop Italia) and Osvaldo Bosetti (Goglio), together with Board Member Luca Fornaroli (Fimat) and Past Chair Anna Paola Cavanna (Laminati Cavanna).

Operational management is entrusted to Francesco Legrenzi, Director of the Italian Packaging Institute, while Stefano Broglia serves as Sole Auditor and Supervisory Body.
